Get rid of mould with Oil of Cloves. According to the cleaning genius Shannon Lush, the best killer of mould is Oil of Cloves.

Oil of Cloves can be diluted in water and applied directly to surfaces to actually kill mould spores. It also acts as a mould preventative, helping to keep your surfaces mould-free for longer.

A few drops of Oil of Cloves can also be placed directly on to a cotton ball or piece of jumbo chalk, and placed in a cupboard to help kill airborne mould spores, and deter moths and cockroaches. You can also add a couple of drops of Oil of Cloves to your leather cleaner or conditioner and use it to keep leather items and furniture mould-free.

You may also be interested to know that chlorine bleach, at the strength available at supermarkets, does not actually kill mould, but only lightens the colour of the mould so that it is no longer visible. You will find that mould cleaned with bleach returns far quicker than if you clean the area with Oil of Cloves.

Oil of Cloves has anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties. It is, however, irritating to the skin and must never be applied directly to the skin but diluted significantly in a carrier oil or cream, prior to application.

Directions: Add ½ teaspoon of Oil of Cloves to 1 litre of water into a spray bottle. Spray the surface and leave for 20 minutes. Wipe the surface clean, then re-spray and leave it. It will take between 24 to 48 hours for the mould spores to die and drop off.
